January 14, 2014 Membership Meeting

Lisa Stott and Chuck Pell, co-chairs of the Mayor’s SDAT Action Committee, will be the guest speakers for the membership meeting on Tuesday, January 14. The SDAT Action Committee is an architect-citizen workgroup appointed by Mayor Houston in 2012 to creatively connect the dots so that both public and private sectors can help successfully implement the Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) Final Report recommendations,
to create an urban residential neighborhood in downtown Springfield.

Bowen National Research was recently hired to complete an analysis of the downtown Springfield housing market and has determined that there is enough demand to warrant the development of more residential projects with the potential of attracting hundreds of new residents to the downtown area within five years. The study was funded in part by The Chamber’s Q5 Strategic Leadership Council as well as the Community Impact Council; by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; and by the Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR), which also provided data necessary to complete the analysis.

Lisa and Chuck will present an overview of the housing study, focusing in particular on the need for additional housing for medical staff and students as well as young professionals.
