Take Back the Night

“Take Back the Night” is an annual event designed to draw attention to the issues of violence against women, domestic abuse, and sexual assault. Cities across the nation hold rallies, marches, and vigils to symbolically reclaim the night and promote a safer community. For several years now, students from Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois at Springfield have helped organize a joint campus event each spring. However, they  have decided it would be more appropriate to take the event into the community and wanted to partner with a neighborhood organization.

Students from the Feminist Activist Coalition, who are helping to organize the event, attended the March membership meeting and invited Enos Park to be a partner in this year’s event.

Take Back the Night will be held on Friday, April 20 from 7:30-9 p.m. Participants are invited to gather at Enos Park at dusk for a walk around the neighborhood.  We will then return to the park for refreshments and music. We encourage residents to come out and meet your neighbors and show support for taking back the night in our community!
