The City of Springfield Office of Public Works has announced with the Lincoln Funeral Reenactment the first weekend on May, please plan on roadway closures with each event. The road closures are as follows:
Friday, May 1, 2015
- By 6:00 am, Washington Street between 6th and 7th Streets will be closed to traffic. Parking will not be allowed on Washington Street between 6th Street and the Chase Bank Exist.
- By 6:00 pm, Washington Street between 5th and 6th Streets will be closed to traffic.
Saturday, May 2, 2015
- By 6:00 am, the following streets will be closed. Parking will be restricted on these streets as well during the procession from Amtrak to the Old State Capitol:
- Jefferson Street between 9th and 2nd Street
- 5th Street between Madison Street and Monroe Street
- 6th Street between Capitol Avenue and Jefferson Street
- Monroe Street between 4th Street and 7th Street
- Adams Street between 7th and 6th Streets
- 4th Street between Adams and Madison Streets
- Washington Street between 2nd and 7th Streets
- All streets will be opened up by Noon (12:00 pm) except the following:
- 6th Street between Monroe and Jefferson Streets
- Washington Street between 5th and 7th Streets
- Adams Street between 7th and 6th Streets
- The above streets will remain closed the remainder of the weekend.
Sunday, May 3, 2015
- By 9:00 am all streets between 2nd and 9th Streets and Madison Street and Lawrence Avenue will be closed to traffic in the downtown area. Once the procession crosses over Carpenter Street then the downtown streets will be opened to traffic.
- All streets that cross 4th Street between Carpenter Street and North Grand Avenue will be closed and opened as the procession proceeds north.
- North Grand Avenue between 2nd and 5th will be closed around 1:00 pm.
- All the streets that cross 3rd Street between North Grand and the cemetery entrance will be closed and opened as the procession proceeds north.
The procession starts at noon, 12:00 pm and should be at Oak Ridge Cemetery by 3:00 pm. The procession route will be marked with NO PARKING signs. Please park on alternate routes on Sunday.
Springfield Mass Transit District is offering a special bus route on Sunday to allow for people to be bused into Oakridge Cemetery.
Oakridge Cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday May 3rd.
